This is going to be a short one. Very simple. I think that this is the best Piece of outdoor kit, no matter if your a kayaker, climber, mountaineer, or woodsman. You will know that this is a life saver.
The "bomb shelter"
The above photo shows a rather wet and windy day near the Glyders, in north Cymru. An amber weather warning was in place, the rain was lashing me like a whip. Alas all the shelter i needed was my "bomb shelter", a water-proof jacket. There are lots of jackets out there, Gore-Tex, Paramo etc. But they pretty much do the same thing. They both put a barrier, a shell if you like between you and whatever environment is out there. Whether that be snow, rain or wind. The best waterproof jacket is one that keeps rain out, provides a barrier against the wind and soaks up the sweat and keeps everything breathable. I personally recommend Paramo. But if your wanting something that will go over a few gates and fences I would recommend a Gore-Tex.
Why its a life saver
If everything goes wrong, if there is no escaping a situation in the outdoors you don't want to be in. This piece of kit will Provide you a basic layer of shelter. Shelter that is the most basic human need for survival. It will give an injured person a layer of protection against the elements and might make the difference in a survival situation. Whether on a river-bank, forest or hillside.
